How It All Came Together
Small Yet Mighty is the brainchild of company owner and self-professed health crazed weightlifter Carla Laurino. In 2020, Carla found herself out of work as a result of the Coronavirus pandemic and decided that it was time to pivot her career in a different direction. Drawing on her past experience from decades prior, Carla chose to go back to her marketing roots. She used the pandemic’s forced isolation period to acclimate herself with the modern day principles digital of marketing.
During this time she also developed a hefty reading habit and became intensely inspired by the works of Simon Sinek. Carla has a passion for all things health, fitness, and wellness that naturally tended to spill over into all aspects of her life. She decided that it was time to channel that love into her career too. She put herself on a mission to love what she did for a living and focused her marketing efforts on helping companies that value health improve their reach.
For weeks she pondered over a name to call her company, but found herself stuck until one day when she opted to help her brother with an issue with his iPad. While trying to resolve the issue over text message her brother sent her a screenshot of his text messages from his phone. It was then that Carla discovered that her brother opted to use the cartoon character Mighty Mouse for her avatar instead of her face. Realizing all of her social media stories of her lifting heavy weights on the gym floor had clearly gone to his head, she commented on it laughing. He replied back “I gave you Mighty Mouse because you’re small but mighty.”
Shortly after this conversation Carla came to the realization that the term “small but mighty” held parallels to her marketing side. She discovered that the acronym SBM stood for small business marketing and found herself primarily working with small business owners. When she found that the company name “Small But Mighty” had already been claimed, she opted to go with the name “Small Yet Mighty” as the next best thing.
